Depression is a state of the mind that drains a lot of
energy from the brain cells and often results in physical weakness and
inability of the affected person to organize his / her thoughts towards accomplishing
or managing a particular objective.
Depression is very bad to the human person because if not
properly managed and as early as possible, it will go beyond what the average
thinking being believes to be. More often than we know, depression has led to
people taking undesired actions that they never might have thought of if they
are in absolute control of their conscious brain system. Some of the offspring
of depression are Suicide, anger, hatred, drinking and / or smoking, assault,
raping, ill health (heart attack, HBP, etc.), weakness of the body and
inability to produce healthy thoughts, etc.
MAJOR CAUSES OF
DEPRESSION
1.
Helplessness: People who have been in a stage in
life that they needed help and nothing as coming up will understand what I am
talking about. At this stage, their family couldn’t offer a bit of it let alone
friends not even to talk of others from the outside arena. At this stage all
hope of escaping the need for the help proved abortive, thereby resulting to
helplessness. You will find out that the person who is going through this state
of helplessness will eventually be depressed.
What to Do: Don’t allow the situation to weigh you down, not
even when it is something that might claim life. Just believe in yourself and
the ability of impossibility turning to possible. Stick to information that
will boost your self-esteem. Do some research about the cause of that issue and
try finding solutions. Remember the words of Napoleon Hills that says, “What the mind can conceive and believe it can
achieve.”

Abuse (Physical/Sexual): Any form of abuse will
at a stage depressed the victim. That is certainly you should be at alert to
avoid their occurrence anytime in the future. If you are a house-help, you will
often experience this form of abuse. It could manifest in the form of physical
(hard) labor, molestation and the like or it could come in the form of sexual
harassment. In whichever case, you don’t have to allow it result to depression.
What to Do: If you are under labor imposed on you by someone
/ something, all you have to do is to develop the right mindset that will
enable you go through the hardship with minimal negative effect on your mental
faculty. Don’t consider it to be the end for you. Believe that one day you will
call it history. And if you are sexually molested, you have to find a way out
of it. It is fatal to be used as sex beast especially in a forceful means. If
you have another location where you can relocate to then do just that but if
you don’t, consider seeking help from human right organization, NGOs and
Churches / religious leaders. If nothing is working, don’t give up continue
trying. Above all, avoid negative singing (thoughts) and embrace the opposite.

Life Frustration: Many individuals dance
according to life’s tune instead of living their own life the way they want to.
This often lead to depression and you have to fight it with full force. Do not
allow life circumstances to make you an object of mockery because you will not
be happy with the result you will get.
What to Do: Try by all means legal to find something doing.
You know that an idol mind is the devil’s workshop. You can always beat this
stress by keeping yourself busy with anything legal that can put food on your
table. Avoid total dependency. If you seat at home and expect monthly salary,
things might not move smoothly as you desire. Therefore, you can choose o be
independent by investing the little have (get) into what will generate
something better. If you don’t have any source of income currently, offer to do
(if possible) the least job around your hood. It is better living for something than nothing is.
4.
Parental Factor: Some parents who don’t have
enough to care for their family, will likely distribute their income in favor
of a particular child who to them will do better that others in life. When
situations like this exists, those around don’t seem to know the problems
hidden around it until later in future when almost everyone must have grown
adult. It is therefore important that you consider as a parent the level of
favoritism you implement in taking care of your children’s needs. Children are
characterized by straightforward thought pattern and consider what they are
thought the final and the only accurate. But we seem not to know much about the
fact that children also learns from nature and that they have the potential of
perceiving ill treatment directed to their well being. Those who are not
favored in the distribution of family possessions will like get depressed
because they think they not born equal with the favored or that they are just
been deprived of their right. Since they don’t have control over how family
possessions are managed, they continue to think and ponder on how it has been
affecting them individually and the best it can result to is depression.
Parents should take caution.
What to Do: Take things of the world for granted. Do not consider
the situation to be the worst that could ever happen to you instead allow
yourself to be as an example to others by working smarter to make the best for
yourself in spite the fact that you were not giving much attention from your
parents. And for parents, if you must favor a particular child, learn to
convince the others to understand that yes you have to do it that way. If they
fail to understand, you can go ahead with what you believe to be the best for
them but ensure “it the best and nothing but the best”.
