Six Basic Steps to Being A Better Writer

Often times people see the act of writing as something that can be explored only by genius or professors (academic merit) but little do they know that anyone can be a writer. Depending on the subject you want to write on / about. I have been through several stages of procrastination on deciding what and how to start writing as a profession and after all sets and done I decided to put down to writing the steps I took to become a writer that I am today. Please take your time and go through all under listed steps as I believe it might be the guide you have been searching for all over the place.

1.                   Decide the subject you want to put more focus: Choosing a specific subject or topic has always been a general battle for everybody who wants to start writing professionally. This from my own experience was one of the greatest challenges I faced considering the fact that the big people in the field have exploited almost every topic I could think of. I spent weeks trying to figure out a subject that is still untouched but find just nothing but empty vessels. It was really challenging but thanks to the giver of wisdom that made me understand that there is nothing of the sort as that which I was looking to find. Fortunately, I decided to follow that which I explained in the next step.

2.                   You do not have to know everything before you begin writing: After going through the frustrating stage of deciding what to write about, I decided to just start writing something. The importance of what I was writing is what I cannot really tell but all I know is that I am determined to be a writer (professional writer). So, I picked up my pen and notebook and started writing. I was about to give up when I remembered there was a programme I listened to that interests me, then I decided to put down something on that. Within few minutes, I noticed I have something written on the paper by nobody else but me! I continued because the first experience gave me hope. Moreover, I continued using that method until I started coming up with something better. As it is now, I will just look around and see many opportunities (topics) that need to be covered. In addition, I often make a topic on subjects that I know better before considering other alternatives.

3.                   If your first few works sucks do not give up just keep trying: There will never be a guarantee that you will compose the best article on a particular topic even after some considerable amount of trials. Therefore, you should not even consider quitting if your work does not appeal to expected number of persons. You can best understand what I am talking about if you will just pick up your internet enabled device and do some research about how to aspire in writing as a professional. Practice continuously until you get better. Remember, A thousand miles begins with a step.

4.                   At first, live to write and not write to live: People actually misunderstood this part more often than necessary. This is because they think that once they have made up their mind to be a writer they will start making a leaving from it. But it does not always workout the way they thought it should be. They never knew that it takes some time to establish a strong empire. It has also been responsible for great number of fall out in the writing industry. I will advice you not to put your primary focus on making a leaving from writing rather make writing a hobby and sooner than later, you will see it leaving money on your table than you never thought possible.

5.                   Consider Quality more than quantity: The fact that most highly influential books are of great sizes should not make you give up because you know you may not be able to put down something close to that size. You should note that those who are no more wrote mostly those books of hundreds of pages. in addition, the reading habit of this generation is alarmingly decreasing. Hence, I will advice you focus your attention on more important areas like quality and conciseness. The issue of decreased interest of our generation’s reading habit can be proved by the continuous growth of the 140 character mini blog (aka twitter). In other words, let quality rule the object when it comes to writing other than quantity.

6.                   Target the right people in your writing: Most people, especially newbie always generalize their content even when they know that they cannot cover all aspect or that their skills are limited. You can avoid the unexpected that always follow this method of writing by categorizing your work according to your target audience. There is no point in trying to get everybody to appreciate your work. However if only the right people commends you for work well done, it will definitely be preferable than having everybody throw the stone on you. Therefore, Make Your Choice Today!
